Since September 2003 he is the foundation manager of the House of Photography in the Deichtorhallen Hamburg. His fashion photography of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s which argued over and over again with social phenomena and topical currents in the pedagogic art have often become icons, leaving behind their original context and finding their waysinto museums and collections. Since 1975 he has put together internationally notable photographic exhibitions, first in the PPS. Gallery F. C. Gundlach and later in many Hamburger and Berliner museums. For the occasion of the re-opening of the reshaped House of Photography in April 2005 he curated the retrospective of the Hungarian photographer Martin Munkácsi.

His collection of photographic works under the title Das Bild des Mensches in der Photographie ( The image of man in photography) counts to the most important private photography collections in Germany and is available to the House of Photography on long-term loan. Among the rest, from the continuance of his collections, the exhibitions A Clear Vision, The Heartbeat of Fashion, American Beauties and Maloney, Meyerowitz, Shore, Sternfeld.
